I am writing regarding the sculpture which was recently placed in the gardens of the Parish Church of All Saints.
I first caught a glimpse of it on the bus home from work.
I got off at the next stop and returned to investigate. I was confused by where the statue came from.
Its message, however, was clear the artificial poppies and chess board with pieces all of the same colour expressed both an awareness of the war and a wish for peace.
The last time I saw it was on the evening of Saturday, October 13. When I next walked through the churchyard the sculpture appeared to have been vandalised.
If this is the case, I am writing to express the deepest possible contempt for whoever destroyed it.
I am also writing to express my sympathy to the artist who created it. I hope they take some consolation from the fact most of the people I spoke to, who saw it, seemed to appreciate it.
