Dartford Judokwai Club sent an eight-strong squad for the junior trials of the National Judo Championsips in Worthing.

Their aim was to earn high enough posiitons to be selected for the southern Area team taking part in the National Championships at Crystal Palace later this month.

More than 200 competitors took part and six members from Dartford Judokwai qualified.

They were brothers Adam and Ryan Bick, who are 16 and 19 respectively, cousins Paul Cooper and Naomi James, both 16, as well as sisters Emma (16) and Katy Delaney, who is 15. They were all chosen as number one candidates.

Naomi, Adam and Katy are already representing Great Britain, so they will be strongly fancied to win at Crystal Palace.

Emma Delaney is one of the British Judo Associations' world-class performers and qualified automatically.

Daniel Edwards (13) and 11-year-old Jack Phillips both came third in their respective age groups but just missed out on selection, while another of the club's star performers was forced to miss the trials.

Robbie Stilwell the club's Commonwealth and European champion, had been competing for Great Britain in Paris at a high-ranking event and won a bronze but in the process he unfortunately injured a finger.

Dartford Judokwai has classes for all abilities and ages and welcomes enquiries, call Linda on 01322 280831 for more details.

The club would also welcome your call if you interested in sponsoring an event.
