THE timetable for the new £22.1m community hospital in Gravesend has been put back once again to December 2004.

And acting deputy chief executive of West Kent Health Authority Bill Gillespie says he can not promise the date will not go back again.

This is now the second time the date for the opening of the new hospital has been pushed back.

In April 2000, the News Shopper reported the hospital would open in April 2003.

Then in the summer, it was announced the timetable was being put back to December 2003. Now, it is going to be December 2004.

Mr Gillespie said: "As plans have become more detailed, it has become easier to come up with a firmer timetable.

"But, of course, these plans are subject to approval by the regional office and the Department of Health in September and the date could change again."

The new hospital, which will offer both health and social care provision, is being built by the Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley Primary Care Trust and Kent County Council social services.
