The Mothers' Union (MU), whose worldwide membership now stands at over a million, celebrated their 125th anniversary recently.

To increase awareness about the association, members of the St Dunstan's MU branch held an exhibition and table top sale in the Parochial rooms, Cheam Broadway.

The union was formed in 1876 by a woman called Mary Summer. It was aimed at supporting young mums and today is a voluntary worldwide Anglican organisation.

There are six branches of the organisation each holding regular meetings covering a variety of subjects.

St Dunstan's MU branch leader, Norma Phillpot, said: "Each branch holds regular meetings covering a variety of subjects.

She added: "The MU is involved with other churches and gives them help with various projects.

"These include parenting courses in the local community."

Membership is now open to both men and women providing they have been baptised in the name of the Holy Trinity.
