ROCKETS, screaming bangers and shooting stars lit up the skies above the Thames at Gravesend's biggest and best fireworks extravaganza ever.

About 15,000 revellers braved a November chill to watch the display from Gordon Promenade on Sunday, November 4.

Children waved sparklers and gazed in amazement as nearly 5,000 tonnes of fireworks were launched over the river.

And each flash and explosion was followed by the traditional "ooohs" and "aaahs" from the riverside.

The festive fun began at 4pm and the crowds were entertained with music from the Invicta Radio roadshow.

By 6pm the first rockets went up and at times it seemed as though the river was bursting with fire.

A spokesman for organiser Gravesham Council said: "We have been flooded with calls and emails from the public thanking us for the best display ever.

"It really was very successful. The whole evening went off as planned and everyone had a great time."
