HEALTH chiefs were yesterday (Wednesday) set to reconfirm their backing for plans to redevelop the St Margaret's Hospital site in Epping.o

But a report to North Essex Health Authority's meeting reveals that the surplus land involved in the project and which is set to be turned into a housing development has dropped £6m in value.

The report states that the Secretary of State-owned land, which had a minimum value of £16m, is now worth some £10m.

The scheme will see the reprovision of 42 elderly care beds, the 15-place elderly day hospital, and therapy and community clinic services, with the cost of the project approaching £10m.

A further one acre of land in the primary care trust's ownership could also be sold, with the capital receipt going to the primary care trust and the North Essex Health Economy.
