Well done C Harrison for speaking out against fireworks (News Shopper, November 14).

Gone are the days when people had respect for other people, animals, the elderly and Sundays.

No more a few discreet fireworks and a get together on November 5. Now it's night after night explosions enough to make everything shake!

This year I really have had enough and I am at present collecting signatures for a petition to ban the public sale of fireworks. I do not apologise for being a killjoy, nor do I want to take away people's right to celebrate, but it has got out of hand. I have rights too, as do the animals who have four freedoms in a cruelty act, one of which is the freedom from fear.

No animal should be subjected to being frightened with such powerful explosions.

I have heard birds hurtle out of trees to their death and I am not exaggerating.

So do speak out against noise nuisance. This bombardment is not what November 5 is or was all about.

Help put a stop to people letting off fireworks with no regard to anyone or anything.
