A Croydon shopkeeper was stabbed in the face so hard that the blade snapped in half, during a robbery this week.

Mohammed Sarwar-Lloyd, 60, was left with blood gashing from his cheek after the brutal attack at his shop on Mitcham Road on Monday (November 19).

The robber entered the shop just after 8.30am where he asked the victim for a phone card.

While the victim's back was turned the robber followed him behind the counter.

As Mr Sawar-Lloyd pushed him away he was stabbed underneath the left eye with such force that the weapon snapped in half.

The suspect ran out of the shop, empty-handed, towards Croydon.

Police want to hear from anyone who saw the attacker, who is aged around 18yrs, black, 5ft 10ins, wearing a grey hooded top and dark trousers. Contact DC Steve Troubridge at the South Norwood robbery squad on 020 8768 1212.
