A BRUTAL rapist who kidnapped a 16-year-old schoolgirl and subjected her to a two-hour ordeal of terror in Woodford Green, has been jailed for 14 years.

Judge Gareth Hawkesworth ordered Sean Mitchell, 21, to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for life and told him: "You will remain a danger to young women for a long time."

Mitchell, of Empress Avenue, Ilford, was before Chelmsford Crown Court for sentence on Tuesday after a jury convicted him of kidnap, rape and three offences of indecent assault.

Judge Hawkesworth told him: "Your victim was a complete stranger. You forced her by a combination of menaces and threats to accompny you on a dreadful journey of 12kms through the streets of Woodford.

"You took her to a wood and forced her to indulge in a sexual act, then led her to another wood where you raped her.

"You also took her to two further places where she was forced to engage in sexual activities before abandoning her to her fate and making off."

He added: "Her ordeal lasted for two hours and you caused her unimaginable fear and terror. The effects of your action will remain with your victim for the rest of her life. You have not shown one shred of remorse."

Peter Lodder, prosecuting, described how the girl was abducted as she left school and forced to walk away with Mitchell on November 29 last year.

Mitchell, who wore a hood, walked up behind her and threatened to kill her unless she went with him. He put an arm round her waist to give the impression she was his girlfriend.

He took her on a two-hour walk of terror along the streets of Buckhurst Hill and Woodford Green before the attacks.

Mitchell was clever and cunning, always making the teenager walk slightly in front of him and giving her little opportunity to see his face, said Mr Lodder.

"She was forced to put her arm round his waist to give the impression they were a couple," he said.

But Mitchell was recognised by Alexis Hoffman, an 18-year-old hairdresser, after details of the attack were published in newspapers.

Miss Hoffman saw Mitchell with the girl and knew she was not his girlfriend. She told police and Mitchell was arrested.

Mitchell denied the offences and told police: "I'm not a rapist."

In evidence, he claimed he was walking around a shopping centre in Ilford at the time.

Nicholas Valios QC, defending, told the court: "Mitchell should have been celebrating his 21st birthday today but he has no cause for celebration. He has been suffering from depression and has tried to inflict self-harm on himself since he has been in custody."

Mr Valios said Mitchell had been examined by a psychiatrist "and there is no evidence he suffers from schizophrenia or any mental disorder".
