HUNDREDS of fans braved the cold to see a home-grown hero switch on the lights in Wembley town centre on Thursday last week.

Olympic Gold medallist Audley Harrison, who hails from Kingsbury, delivered a knockout start to the festive season.

The lead-up to the big moment provided a host of entertainments, both on stage and around the town centre, including a gospel choir, street theatre, festive characters and a spectacular fireworks display.

Brent Council had also arranged for the return of the popular French market for the whole day where cancan dancers kicked up a storm for customers Moulin Rouge-style.
