GREENWICH Council's Direct Services has made the finals of the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) awards, for UK council team of the year.
The weekly magazine nominated the team at Greenwich, which is responsible for refuse collection, street cleaning, parks, road and council house repairs, for its annual awards, because of its success in increasing public awareness of recycling and tackling community safety issues.
Councillor Angela Cornforth, Greenwich Council cabinet member for public services, said: "We are proud of our direct services. Getting on the LGC shortlist is, I hope, recognition that our aspirations are good and we have an ability to meet them."
The overall winner will be announced on March 17.
