GRAVESHAM Council is urging residents to vote in tomorrow's local elections.
More than 69,200 people in the borough are registered to vote but, when the last council elections were held in 1999, only 31 per cent had their say.
The council is hoping to reverse the growing trend of voter apathy. For the first time in a local election, every voter has been given the chance to use a postal ballot, meaning they can cast their vote without having to get to a polling station on May 1. This year, more than 4,500 residents requested postal voting forms.
When first made available to all at the last parliamentary elections, just under 3,000 people voted by post, showing it is a popular option.
Gravesham Borough Council returning officer David Williams said: "The message is simple: don't lose your voice."
