A TRAINEE teacher was left stunned when "traffic wardens from hell" swooped as she moved her car from her driveway to let her parents' caravan out.

Sheridan Skeels had parked her VW Polo half on the pavement, half on the road, for five minutes as the family re-arranged the line up of vehicles outside their Chislehurst home in preparation for a holiday.

Her parents needed the caravan for a trip to Selsey and were due to set off on that morning.

Their 21-year-old daughter deliberately did not park fully in the road, as workers at an electricity substation had parked vans opposite her home and the road would have been blocked.

Miss Skeels said: "I was actually trying not to inconvenience other drivers, so I left it partly on the pavement for five minutes."

As her father Allan was moving the caravan out of the driveway in Walden Road, up crept the wardens and slapped a £40 fixed penalty notice on the car's windscreen.

"They were watching us and knew exactly what we were doing but they sneaked up and gave me a ticket," said Miss Skeels.

"They could have just asked me to move my car but instead they handed me a £40 fine.

"These wardens are obviously paid on commission. They are wardens from hell.

"They told me they would rather I blocked the entire road, than park anywhere on the pavement."

Miss Skeels plans to appeal the fine.

Bromley Council points out parking on a pavement for any amount of time is illegal, except where signs permit it.

But it accepted parking on the road so as to obstruct other vehicles was also illegal.

A spokesman said: "We sympathise with this motorist's situation and will be investigating the case."
