BUDDING young artists from Watford are encouraged to pursue their talents this summer with the launch of a week-long art school.

The Faculty of Art & Design at the University of Hertfordshire is opening its doors to young people with an interest in art or desire to explore their creative skills, between Wednesday, July 23 and Tuesday, July 29 as part of its new art school - Artscool.

Young artists between the ages of 18 to 19 will attend the Faculty department at the University in Hatfield for 5 days to work with art tutors and artists, getting to grips with painting, photography, print and computers.

Artscool organiser, Ms Judy Glasman said: "It's a marvellous opportunity for young people interested or talented in visual arts to come and use the facilities usually only open to those studying for a degree.

"Everyone will be getting real hands on experience and a fantastic opportunity to develop their ideas and work, having real dialogue with tutors and artists, and getting a chance to find out more about what you can do with art as a career."

Supported by Hertfordshire County Council, Artscool is designed to offer opportunities to talented and interested young people including those with disabilities and those with families on income support.
