Revellers and theatre-goers stuck in the city after tube services finish could share taxis or minibuses to get home late at night, under a new proposal.
Liberal Democrats on the Greater London Assembly want to copy the "shared cab" scheme run in Thailand, where people can share the costs of a cab or minibus to travel home.
Tube services finish before 1am on the weekends, leaving people with the choice of an expensive cab ride or night bus to get home.
"Minibuses could gather up' passengers either in clubland in central London or at well known transport interchanges in outer London from late night Tube trains or from night buses," said the Lib Dem transport spokeswoman Lynne Featherstone.
Seven passengers sharing a fare, at $5 each, would make this a profitable operation for cab firms, Miss Featherstone said.
Baroness Sally Hamwee, chair of the GLA, said catching a night bus home could be an unnerving, frightening experience for women, and the "shared cab" scheme deserved a trial.
