All Lambeth schoolchildren will eventually be equipped with their own laptop, thanks to a new charity which has just been launched in Brixton.
Lambeth e-Learning Foundation (LeLF) received cheques of £5,000 each at a ceremony on Wednesday, at Jessop Primary School in Lowden Road. Companies including Pearson Broadband, RM, Volvo IT and Granada Learning were the first donors to affiliate to LeLF.
Earlier this year, LeLF launched a pilot initiative at St Martin's-in-the-Fields High School for Girls in Tulse Hill, which equipped 140 Year 10 students with their own mobile computer.
Vivien Stillman, LeLF chief executive officer, said: "This is an absolutely fantastic start to the project. We want all children in the borough to be computer-literate and be able to take advantage of the opportunities of the internet age."
Sponsors Owen White of Pearson Broadband, Ian Todd of RM, Paul Bryans of Grant Thornton with are pictured with Brandon Ullah, Candida Bawah and Janice Jan-Nnyeruka and a new laptop.
