Barnet Police launched dawn raids on suspected luxury car thieves across London, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire this morning (May 29).
About 100 officers from the Barnet Borough Police Command and Hertfordshire Constabulary, supported by officers from Bedfordshire and other London boroughs, raided 13 addresses.
They are believed to be used by criminals who burgle houses to get the keys to luxury cars. The gangs target homes where residents have left car keys in insecure places. They either break in or fish the car keys out throught the letterbox using a rod.
In Barnet, there have been 131 burglaries over the last two years, where luxury cars each worth £25,000 or more have been stolen.
In Hertfordshire over the same period, there have been 169 such burglaries, where cars worth a total of £7 million have been stolen.
