Sutton Council's risk manager is one of three people short-listed for a top industry award.

ALARM The National Forum for Risk Management in the Public Sector has selected Michael Sloniowski for its Risk Manager of the Year award.

The winners will be announced at its annual conference in Manchester, between June 23 and 25.

Judges were impressed with his new strategic policy for risk management across the council, which has gone beyond the usual scope of the discipline.

Mr Sloniowski was commended for incorporating environmental, budgetary, technological and social risks into his plan.

ALARM chairman David Fleetwood said: "Being short-listed for the risk manager of the year award is a tremendous achievement and Michael's efforts are an excellent example of the hard work that is going on in this discipline."

Mr Sloniowski said: "I am delighted to have been short-listed for the award."

His innovations have included a risk register and a management handbook, documenting policies and procedures.
