Police are this week hunting racist thugs who beat a black man with a bottle in West Croydon.

Around 12 men pounced on the 21-year-old victim as he walked home from a night out in the early hours of last Saturday (May 17).

As they passed him in the street at around 2.20am on London Road, one of the suspects spat at the victim and when he asked them why was told: "Because you're black."

The victim, from Croydon, was then punched and kicked to the ground while another suspect beat him over the head with a bottle.

Passers-by ran to help, scaring off the gang.

The young victim was taken to Mayday Hospital where he was given eight stitches for his head injury.

Police want to speak to anyone who witnessed the attack, particularly the passers-by.
