I despair at the state of the
children's play area in our parks in recent times.
When I took my grandchildren to King George's playing fields
in Tudor Drive, Morden, recently, I had to struggle to unwind the baby swings that had been wrapped around the top bar, which I suppose is not as bad as a few months ago when they had been smashed to pieces.
However the wooden seats had been smashed up and there was glass in the paddling pool and the obligatory graffiti.
Of course this is happening all over the borough, with worse things such as buildings being burned down. When I was young we had park keepers to keep an eye on things, but not today.
The people who do these things have a free run perhaps a few CCTV cameras hidden in trees might catch the culprits.
It might be expensive to set up but in the long run would pay for itself not having to continually pay for new equipment. It would also sort out the mindless individuals who carry out these acts.
