London has retained its position as one of the world's great cities over many centuries because of the quantity, quality and diversity of its people, businesses, infrastructure and natural resources. However, the downside has been the associated social division, pollution and increasingly wasteful use of resources'.
So begins the London Sustainable Development Framework, which we hope will provide the overriding context for all future decision-making in the capital. Whether you are in business, the public or community sector, the framework is there to help you ensure your plans, policies or initiatives are contributing to making London a sustainable world class city.
The London Sustainable Development Commission was set up to be an independent and challenging voice in the debates on sustainable development in the capital. Please join us for the launch of the framework and the publication of our first annual report on June 5 at London's Living Room, on the 9th floor of the new City Hall. The keynote speaker will be Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London.
