THE lure of beer is the novel incentive to get people out of their cars and into public transport which has been dreamed up by Hertfordshire County Council and Camra (Campaign for Real Ale).

On Monday, public houses across the area recommended by Camra, including Kings Langley and Chipperfield will be visited on the all-day trip.

Hertfordshire's Intalink Partnership is promoting the journeys with the first bus leaving Boxmoor at 11.23am and everyone is welcome.

The buses are part of a normal service and due to reach Kings Langley at 12.36 and Chipperfield about an hour later.

Two of the pubs on the route recommended for a visit by Camra are the Saracen's Head in Kings Langley and The Royal Oak, Chipperfield.

Mrs June Bentley and husband, Allen, have owned the Saracen's Head in Kings Langley High Street for ten years.

The initiative was welcomed by the pub famed in the village for its impressive hanging baskets as much as its beer.

Mrs Bentley said: "The idea is super. Not only for the pub, but also for the buses.

"I think it is a novel idea, anything to boost trade and it is always nice to get a mention by Camra."

Hertfordshire County Council's executive member for environment councillor Derrick Ashley, hopes lots of people will take part to make the day a success.

The 55-year-old real ale fan said he will be joining in the day.

He said: "We thought this was a worth while promotion. With me with my environmental hat on it makes the point you can get around by bus and it's a very affordable way to do it.

"Especially with the summer coming it shows if you want to get out during the day and have a couple of pints you can.

"It is just a bit of fun and connects with the don't drink and drive campaign.

"The buses allow you about three quarters of an hour in each pub, which is enough time for a pint and a game of darts and then move on.

"This is a great day out that allows people to see the benefits of public transport, while also having the chance to sample some top quality beers on the way."

The cost of an Intalink Explorer ticket for two adults and two children is £6.
