THE MUCH anticipated return of Brentford's annual carnival, which was scheduled this June in the guise of the Ferry Fayre, has had to be re-scheduled, after a resident of the luxury housing development that was due to host it, complained that the bustle of the event would be too invasive.

The Fayre had been scheduled to take place on the public access part of the waterside development Ferry Quays on June 28th, to celebrate Brentford's historic links to the water, and raise money for children with severe learning disabilities from Isleworth's Oakland school.

A number of community events such as stalls by local schools, local artists and entertainment by community groups had also been planned - along with a presentation by Watermans' Arts Centre and a Bangra dance team.

A source close to the organisers of the Fayre commented: One miserable person has spoilt this for everyone. The ridiculous thing about it is that this part of the river is now public access.

Organisers had spent so long working to make something the people of Brentford would be proud of and that children could enjoy. This is very disheartening.''

Replacement events are currently being planned.
