Sutton Council this week warned residents to look out for bogus charity collectors operating in the borough.
The warning follows several inquiries to the council's trading standards service about fake organisations offering to
collect unwanted clothes and bric-a-brac for distribution in eastern Europe.
Residents are being alerted to the latest scam, where homes have been targeted with advertising leaflets.
A council spokesman said further investigations had revealed many of these organisations were limited companies and operating for profit.
Anyone who would like further information should telephone 020 8770 5528.
