AN 18-YEAR-old from Chertsey, described by police as an absolute menace on the road', has been given a four-month Anti-Social Behaviour Order.

Nicholas Paul Field, of Free Prae Road, stole from cars in hotel and pub car parks, gave false names to police, attacked a car and its owner, failed to stop when driving on the M25 while disqualified, travelled as a passenger in stolen cars and drove constantly without insurance.

Field appeared at Woking Magistrates' Court, on May 21, where an Interim Anti-Social Behaviour Order was granted, until September 13. If he breaks the order, he will be liable for arrest and up to five years' imprisonment.

The court granted the order, as magistrates believed that Field had acted in an anti-social manner, and that the order is necessary to protect the people of Runnymede from further anti-social acts.

Before making the decision, the court heard from Surrey Police that Field had been convicted of a number of thefts from cars parked in pub and hotel car parks, had given many different false names to police, and had attacked a car and abused the owners in a Chertsey car park, on New Year's Eve.

He had also failed to stop while being disqualified from driving, between junction 9 and 12 of the M25, and had been a passenger in several stolen cars, both in the Surrey and Thames Valley area.

Runnymede Borough Inspector, Frances Breslin, commented: "This order is necessary to protect the public of Runnymede, and Surrey as a whole, from this prolific offender, who targets hotel and pub car parks, and is an absolute menace on the road, driving constantly with no insurance or documentation.

"We see no reason why he should be allowed to carry on in this manner, and he will be arrested and hopefully removed from our streets if he breaks this order."

The court ordered that Field be prohibited from:

Entering or attempting to enter any premises or vehicle illegally;

Entering any car park used by premises holding a justices' only licence;

Driving any motor vehicle unless legally allowed to do so;

Allowing himself to be carried in any vehicle unless it is in the possession of its legal owner, and road legal;

Giving false details to police when requested to do so,

And from causing harassment, alarm or distress to any person in the county of Surrey.
