AN EARLY morning fire closed train lines and destroyed part of a scrap yard.
Seven fire engines attended the blaze at Lewisham Car Breakers on January 28 and nearby train tracks were closed off for safety reasons.
Firefighters were called at 2.30am to the Thurston Road, Lewisham, car scrap yard where they found a large fire.
A hydraulic platform was called in and the main blaze was under control by 3.30am, but firefighters stayed at the scene until later that morning dousing down.
Half of the vehicles were saved after firefighters stopped the flames spreading, although a mobile crane, three large advertising hoardings and a fence were destroyed.
