CAMPAIGNERS fighting to cut the number of crashes at an accident black spot have welcomed a £50,000 road safety cash boost.
Bromley Council has secured the funding from Transport for London for safety measures along Main Road, Biggin Hill.
The move follows years of campaigning to make the junction with Jail Lane safer and cut speed along the road.
It also comes after the recent refusal by the council's environment portfolio holder, Councillor George Taylor, to install speed cameras on the road, despite a catalogue of serious accidents in recent years.
Former school secretary Pam Roberts, who organised a petition back in 2001, said: "I'm very pleased something is finally going to happen."
Ward councillor Geoff Gostt said: "I'm concerned more needs to be done to slow traffic down further along Main Road towards Westerham Hill, where there have been some very nasty accidents."
Cllr Taylor said: "The council's consultants have already started investigations into the problem sites and possible solutions."
Options being considered include a mini-roundabout at the Jail Lane junction and more electronic advisory signs like those near the ex-RAF camp entrance, he said.
Residents will be consulted on options later in the year.
