BEXLEY WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
At the October meeting, Mrs Mary Garriock gave us more of an entertainment than a talk with her "Seasons and Celebrations".
She took us through the year, month by month, concentrating on the 1940s and 50s. life was very different in those days, with freezing bedrooms, ice on the inside of the windows and children had a real childhood, complete with liberty bodices and greens!
She dressed up and sang songs appropriate to the weather, in which everyone joined, wearing funny hats and much waving of streamers and flags. At the end she posed a pictorial quiz on actors and actresses from the past.
Sylvia Linton thanked Mrs Garriock for an extremely amusing and nostalgic afternoon.
On Friday, October 29, we held our annual drama afternoon, when visitors from other WI's came to watch the drama groups village saga "Midwinter Meadow", meeting inhabitants who gave amusing readings, songs and a demonstration of Morris dancing.
Our next meeting will be the AGM and 19th birthday celebration.
