CHILDREN playing in a park were subjected to an attempted knifepoint robbery by two other youngsters.

Now police are appealing for help in tracing the two would-be armed robbers.

Five youngsters, aged 11 to 13, were playing in Danson Park, Welling, at around 11.30am on the last day of half-term on October 29.

They were approached by two boys of a similar age.

One 11-year-old was held against a wall with a penknife to his throat while the boys searched his pockets.

Another 13-year-old had a penknife held to his stomach, but neither boy had anything to steal and their attackers ran off.

The mother of the 11-year-old says the boys had also chased her 12-year-old daughter and had terrorised other children in the park.

She said: "They were part of a bigger gang. The children often play in the park and nothing like this has ever happened before.

"Now they have been terrorised so much they are too afraid to go back to the park again. It is so unfair."

One boy is white, aged about 13, with cropped brown hair and was wearing a navy tracksuit with red and white stripes. He has a missing front tooth.

His companion is a light-skinned black boy of a similar age who was wearing a beige zip-up jumper.

Anyone with information about the incident should call PC Spiros Keristantis on 020 8284 9146.
