A DAD served with an anti-social behaviour order (Asbo) for terrorising his neighbourhood has been jailed for breaching it.

Wayne Cousins, now aged 22, of Frobisher Road, Erith, admitted causing criminal damage to a car and breaching his Asbo at Bexley Magistrates' Court last week.

James Marchant, prosecuting, told magistrates Cousins' fingerprints were found on the inside of a Ford Escort which had been damaged in February this year.

The vehicle had been parked in Ightham Road, Bexleyheath, when it was targeted.

Someone had tried to prise open the driver's door, buckling it and leaving a 4in gap at the top, between the door and the frame, which cost £200 to repair.

When he was first interviewed by police, Cousins denied being involved but later admitted it was him.

On his behalf, Wayne Crowhurst said this was the first time Cousins had breached his Asbo since it was imposed in October 2002.

"The bit of light at the end of the tunnel is Wayne now accepts he has a problem with alcohol."

Mr Crowhurst said Cousins had at first denied the criminal damage "because he was so drunk, he could not remember. But he accepts there could be no other explanation for his prints being found on the inside of the car".

He said Cousins now lives with his girlfriend and their two small children.

Cousins was sentenced to two months in jail for the criminal damage and six months for the breach of his Asbo, to run concurrently.

Chairman of the bench Claudette Bennett told Cousins with his previous criminal record and his failure to respond to previous sentences, a custodial sentence had been inevitable.

However, she had taken into account his guilty plea.

She said there were no mitigating circumstances and she had considered the right of the community to a peaceful life.

However, she refused a prosecution request for Cousins to pay costs and compensation.

Cousins was part of the six-strong "Slade Green Massive" which had terrorised the area before being served with Asbos.
