A CONSTRUCTION company has behaved with no respect for the law, according to a councillor.

Councillor John Shepheard told Bexley Council's planning committee of the smell, noise, dust and health concerns residents of Crayford's Braeburn Park face.

He says the problems are caused by FM Conway, Rochester Way, Dartford, which has built on green belt land without planning permission.

He was speaking to Bexley councillors deliberating on two applications submitted by the company after having already carried out the work.

Cllr Ward said: "We've a situation of Conway acting, over the past few months, as if planning law does not apply to it.

"What is particularly galling about this development is it is on green belt land and the residents of Braeburn Park moved there to live in something like the countryside."

Councillors refused the application to allow for the retention of a building, which houses a drainage treatment plant and water storage tanks to process and treat on-site surface water.

They also refused permission for a washing plant to remain and the construction of two more industrial units, alterations to access parking and open storage.

The meeting heard how the company had made it difficult for the officers to gather all the information required to debate the application.

The applications are the two largest of a series of retrospective applications submitted to Kent County (KCC) and Dartford councils.

Both Bexley and Dartford councils have been asked for their response to these two submissions by KCC, which will make the final decision.
