ELTHAM'S MP is backing the call for a crackdown on dangerous drivers.
Clive Efford, who is a member of the House of Commons' transport select committee, has welcomed a series of suggestions from a new report published by the committee.
Among the report's recommendations is fixed penalties for driving without insurance should be made higher than the actual cost of insurance.
The report also states more cases involving serious or fatal injuries should be tried before juries.
Mr Efford said: "Motoring organisations are very effective lobbyists and sometimes they overwhelm the voices of those whose lives have been destroyed by the actions of irresponsible road users.
"This report seeks to provide a balanced approach to this important issue."
