WATER sports and space science were just two of the topics which captured youngsters' imaginations this summer.

Six specialist summer schools were organised for up to 300 pupils, using the facilities of some of Bexley's specialist schools.

Water sports classes to teach Year 8 and 9 pupils sailing, canoeing and kayaking took place at Danson Park.

Specialist language college, Bexley Grammar School, in Welling, hosted classes in German and Japanese.

For Year 5 pupils taking German lessons, there was also creative writing, drama, art, cookery and sport, while Year 8 pupils learning Japanese also tried their hands at martial arts, origami and calligraphy.

Science-minded youngsters learned about the solar system, weightlessness, visiting the Royal Observatory and the Science Museum.

Facilities at Welling School enabled another group of gifted pupils to develop their acting dance and media skills, while, at Hurstmere School ICT, students were able to learn animation and film editing.

There will be presentations of all their work at events in October.
