AN ESTIMATED 2,000 people enjoyed fun in the sun at a free seven-hour community celebration.
The event, organised by Trust Thamesmead, in Southmere Park, Thamesmead, showed the best the town could offer with community stalls, sideshows and inflatables.
There was also a workshop where people could help put together costumes for the carnival parade later in the afternoon, which separated the community activities from a three hour free music concert on August 21.
