A CIVIL servant is pedalling from Greenwich to Paris in aid of charity.

Dafydd Gough, of Ernest Grove, Beckenham, is covering 280 miles over four days for the Royal British Legion.

The Legion provides welfare, counselling, re-training and education for ex-servicemen, their families and children. It costs the charity £50 million a year to fund its services.

The 41-year-old father-of-three, who works for the Department for Education and Skills, has been busy preparing for the trip.

He said: "I have been riding long distances around Kent just to see if my legs will cope and find out how it feels to be in the saddle for four hours at a time."
