RESIDENTS FUNDRAISER: The Tewkesbury Lodge Estate Residents' Association raised £253 for St Christopher's Hospice. Member Jacquie McLaren, who recently filmed TV series Gardens Through the Season for the BBC, donated a free garden design as the lead prize in a raffle.

TRANSPORT FIGURES: The number of passenger journeys on modern light railways in England rose by 4.9 per cent between April 2003 and March 2004, according to figures from the Department of Transport. The Docklands Light Railway saw a six per cent increase in passenger growth.

SPEED WATCH: Traffic officers will crack down on speeding throughout September. The capital-wide operation will target hotspot areas with a high number of collisions. Officers will use mobile and static laser speed-detection cameras.
