A FRIEND of a man accused of killing a doctor near Buckingham Palace told jurors today how the defendant called him confessing to having "let his anger out".

Thomas Connor and William Paton, both from St Paul’s Cray, are accused of murdering and robbing Nadim Gulamhuseinwala in Green Park last July.

The 32-year-old died from head injuries two weeks after he was attacked.

It is alleged Dr Gulamhuseinwala was attacked with a 10kg metal railing and had his head stamped on, before his wallet and mobile phone were stolen.

This morning a jury at the Old Bailey heard evidence from Connor’s best friend Alex Newell.

Mr Newell said he had been drinking in the Lloyds Bar and the Slug & Lettuce pub in Bromley town centre with both Connor and Paton, of Clarendon Way, on the evening of July 24 last year – the night before Dr Gulamhuseinwala was attacked.

He said while he went home to bed the other two men travelled to Soho by train.

The court heard that Connor and Paton, both aged 20, had partied at a nightclub until the early hours of the morning before withdrawing cash and hunting for prostitutes.

The prosecution has claimed the pair were then the victims of a scam when a man and a woman posing as brothel workers stole their money and disappeared.

Andrew Edis, prosecuting, said this sent Connor into a rage and resulted in both him and Paton attacking and robbing Dr Gulamhuseinwala at around 4am on July 25.

Connor, of Curtismill Way, called his friend in the early hours of July 25, the court heard.

Mr Newell said: “He rung me and said he had just been robbed and that he was angry and was looking for the people who robbed him.

“And then he put the phone down. He just sounded really angry.”

Mr Newell went on: “He rung me a bit later. He was crying and upset. He said he had done something bad and said he had got his money back.”

He added: “Connor said he had let his anger out on some man.”

Nicholas Hilliard, defending Connor, highlighted discrepancies between the information Mr Newell had given to the court and his police statement taken last year.

Connor and Paton both deny robbery and murder.

The trial continues.
