ELECTRICIAN Mark Loftus had a birthday to remember when his wife gave birth to triplets - a year after she suffered a miscarriage.

Mr Loftus and his wife Su are celebrating getting James, Harry and Charlotte home after they were born prematurely on February 12 and had to be monitored in a special care unit.

Mrs Loftus, 35, expected the terrific trio to be born in April but they arrived early, giving Mr Loftus “the best present ever” on his 30th birthday.

He said: “James, Harry and Charlotte are now home and healthy, and they are little angels as they sleep right through the night and only wake up for their feed.

“With four of us now having a birthday on the same day, the postman is going to have a backache carrying all the presents and cards to the door.”

James, Harry and Charlotte are the first additions to Mr and Mrs Loftus’ family, and they say discovering they were having triplets was a massive shock.

Mr Loftus said: “There is no history of triplets in either my or Su’s families so when we had the scan and found out it was a real surprise.”

The arrival of James, Harry and Charlotte is extra special for the Loftus family, who live in Waylands in Swanley, after they suffered a miscarriage in February last year.

Mr Loftus said: “We went for a scan and the doctors could not find a heartbeat so the baby was terminated at 12 weeks. Obviously, it was heartbreaking.

“When Su got pregnant for the second time we went for the scan and just wanted the baby to be healthy, so when we found out we had three healthy babies we were flabbergasted.”

Mrs Loftus is on maternity leave from her role as a database manager for a holiday firm, but as caring for three babies is more than a full-time job, she says she is not sure when she’ll return to work.

Mr Loftus said: “We’re just so happy to have three healthy and happy babies it’s hard to think of anything else.”
