LEWISHAM: Pet shop owner wins award

A PET shop owner has been voted the best independent business by his customers.

Ricky Keane, who runs Supreme Animal Foods Ltd on Lewisham High Street, was announced the winner of Lewisham’s annual Who Do You Love? competition.

Mr Keane, who has worked at the store for 20 years, said: “We are really happy. It shows the customers really do love us.”

“It’s the nicest award to win because that’s the one the customers vote for so that’s the one we wanted to win.”

The 45-year-old will be holding a party at the Fox Grove Club in Beckenham for all the staff and customers in June to celebrate the success.

Supreme Animal Foods sells a variety of animals from rabbits and kittens to fish, spiders and birds.

The Council-run competition, now in its sixth year, asks residents to find the best shop or business in the borough.

This is dreadful.

Pet shops are responsible for a large increase in unwanted pets on the streets of Lewisham due to impulse purchasing by sentimental members of the public.

Also how does this establishment justify selling kittens for £200.00? You can adopt a kitten from the RSPCA for £60.00 and that includes first vaccination, neutering etc.

I understand the Council receives numerous complaints about this establishment and its lack of care and attention for the animals it is selling and making a profit from.
