THE fundraising campaign to help little Libby Lee walk more easily has been hit by the news the youngster needs a second life-changing op.

Libby was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when she was toddler and has battled to avoid a lifetime in a wheelchair with intensive physiotherapy.

Now the eight-year-old has a chance to recognise her dream of becoming a dancer by undergoing an operation in America.

Her parents, David and Toni, needed to raise £45,000 to pay for the trip and aftercare but have been told by doctors Libby needs a second operation - adding another £10,000 to the Walking to Happiness appeal target.

The couple run the Greyhound pub in Commonside, Keston, and have already managed to raise more than £32,000.

Mrs Lee, 41, said: “We have to work even harder.

“As Libby grows or gets tired it becomes very difficult to maintain her balance and requires huge input and determination. One step for Libby requires the same effort as three steps of an average child.

“Whilst we know Libby will carry on her positive attitude, we have an opportunity to help her.”

Libby has received therapy since the age of three and has gone from crawling to sitting independently, and then walking with a frame.

But it is hoped the operations will help the Green Street Green Primary pupil sit, stand and walk more easily.

The operations and year-long aftercare means Libby should be able to walk without any assistance at home, while using only one or two sticks outdoors.

And the appeal will get a boost from a huge golf fundraising effort at Sundridge Park Golf Club on June 22.

Give2Give charity shops are organising the event and are now looking for teams of four, along with prizes for raffles and team competitions.
