POLICE raids at homes across north Kent have led to 19 people being charged with drugs offences.

Ten teams of Kent police officers targeted 29 addresses across Dartford, Gravesham and south-east London in early morning raids yesterday.

They seized tablets believed to be amphetamine sulphate, five cannabis plants, a small amount of cannabis resin, a large quantity of mobile phones, a stolen motorcycle and cash.

The raids led to 18 people being charged with various counts of supplying controlled drugs and one man being charged with possessing controlled drugs and obstructing a PC in the execution of their duty.

They are all due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court today via video-link from north Kent police station.

A Kent police spokeswoman said the raids were a “culmination of around four months’ work and intelligence-led investigation”.

As part of the operation, police neighbourhood teams were out in the communities where addresses were targeted, with information about the raids.

Mobile police stations were also set up in Dartford and Gravesend town centres to inform people about what was happening and to gather further information about any criminal activity.

Assistant Chief Constable Alan Pughsley, responsible for specialist operations, said: “Kent police continues to target those people who cause the most harm to our communities.

“Drug dealing is a blight on our society and feeds other crimes such as burglary and theft.

“We are determined to do all that we can to stop this activity and we work constantly to disrupt criminal groups and stop them getting a foothold in the area.

“By targeting key offenders and placing them before the courts, Kent police and partner agencies have driven crime in north Kent down by 33 per cent over the past four years.”
