GRAVESEND: Huge rubbish fire at AEI sports ground

TONNES of burning rubbish on a building site kept firefighters busy in Gravesend this morning (March 16).

Fire crews from Thames Side fire station were called to Dunkirk Close at around 1.10am and spent an hour tackling a blaze which had engulfed around five tonnes of rubbish.

The blaze on the AEI sports ground could reportedly be seen from the nearby A2.

The site is currently under development and firefighters were forced to pull apart the pile of building debris to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.

No-one was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

However, the fire brigade said this morning they have no reason to think the blaze was suspicious.
