BEXLEY: Young musician of the year is violinist who dances

A TALENTED violinist is this year’s Bexley Young Musician of the Year.

Eamonn Cox, 15 of Kingsmead Close, Sidcup, beat nine other musicians and singers in a final played out in front of a packed audience.

Held at Townley Girls’ Grammar School, Townley Road, Bexleyheath, the audience and a panel of expert judges were treated to a variety of music from violins, cellos, piano and flutes and well as singing.

Their efforts were judged Lieutenant Colonel Graham Jones, director of music for the Coldstream Guards; Lynda Coffin, professor of flute at Trinity College of Music and Sarah Quinn, violinist with the London Symphony Orchestra and one of its directors.

Eamonn is studying for his GCSEs at St Olave’s Grammar School in Orpington.

An accomplished violinist and French horn player, he is leader of the Kent School Orchestra, a first violinist with the Kent County Youth Orchestra, a member of the National Youth Choir and former head chorister at the Queen’s Chapel of the Savoy.

Eamonn is studying ballet, tap, modern, jazz and contemporary dance at Bird College in Sidcup.

He was presented with his cup by Bexley mayor, Councillor Bernard Clewes.

Eamonn and all the finalists also received a certificate and £50.
