A MAN has won the right to keep four CCTV cameras on his house to try and prevent vandalism to his vehicles.
Christopher Dolman applied to Bexley Council for restrospective planning permission for the cameras following complaints from neighbours.
At last week’s planning committee meeting, Mr Dolman’s son Daniel told the committee the family, from Milford Close, Abbey Wood, had been suffering damage to their van tyres for more than a year.
He said self-tapping bolts had been pushed into the tyres, costing the family more than £1,500 in repairs.
He added: “Even more worrying is the possibility of a blow-out on a motorway which could be fatal.”
He said the cameras were fixed and could not pan out or zoom in and were not an invasion of neighbours’ privacy.
Mr Dolman’s application was backed by the police which said it had been working with the family to come up with a plan of action to combat the vandalism.
It was also supported by ward councillor John Davey who said he had seen the cameras in action.
He said they did not need extra lighting to work at night and covered the family’s drive, half the road to the side and the road to the front.
Neighbours were concerned their children could be caught on camera if they were in the street.
