FIREFIGHTERS spent four hours battling a roof fire in Welling this morning (March 5).
Fire crews were called to Axminster Crescent at around 11.45pm last night and discovered the roof of a family home was on fire.
A middle-aged couple and their children had escaped the house and were unhurt.
It is thought the family were awake when the fire started but did not have any working smoke alarms.
The London Fire Brigade were at the scene until 4am dealing with the blaze, which damaged mainly the roof.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation but it is not being treated as suspicious.
