A FAULTY stereo may have been to blame for a house fire in Gravesend last night (March 3).

Fire crews were called to a house in Cobham Street at around 8.50pm after reports of smoke in an upstairs bedroom.

Firefighters spent an hour extinguishing the flames and clearing smoke out of the property.

A woman and her son, understood to be in his 20s, had left the building before fire engines arrived at the scene.

Most of the second floor of the house, near Gravesend railway station, suffered smoke damage.

After inspecting the bedroom, firefighters suspected a stereo may have started the blaze.
