A NEW online initiative has been launched by the local authority to help tackle rogue traders.
Businesses can only join Bromley Council’s Trader Register if they can supply three references, one of which will be visited by the council’s trading standards team.
Only once references have been checked and work deemed satisfactory will the trader be accepted onto the scheme.
The register is free for local businesses to join and is supported by the Safer Bromley Partnership.
Partnership chairman Councillor Colin Bloom said: “There are still too many cases of residents being ripped off by bogus builders and tradesmen.
“Our hope is that this new scheme will go some way to putting a stop to the work of villain rogue traders in the borough.”
Traders wishing to apply to the scheme should visit traderregister.org.uk.
Anyone unable to access the internet can request an application pack by calling 020 8313 4395.
