BETTER recycling facilities for people living in flats form part of the major proposals to tackle the city's rubbish mountain.
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has published his waste strategy, London's Wasted Resource, which includes writing to borough leaders to boost recycling rates.
London produces four million tonnes of domestic waste each year and although the city's recycling rate is steadily improving, it is still the lowest of all English regions.
Mr Johnson will ask all borough leaders to redouble their efforts to boost recycling, which will avoid massive landfill taxes and more expensive council tax bills in the future.
Boroughs face a range of challenges in providing good quality, convenient and cost effective collection services especially for flats.
Mr Johnson will urge the London Waste and Recycling Board to allocate funds to help adapt London's flats to boost recycling facilities.
