A 37-YEAR-OLD man convicted of killing a care worker was given an eight-year jail sentence today (December 23).
Andrew Wynter, of no fixed address, had denied murdering Daniel Myrie at his home in Canada Gardens, Lewisham.
Mr Myrie, a 32-year-old Rastafarian, lived at the house with his brother Aaron and their 53-year-old mother, Pauline Williams.
The Old Bailey heard an argument erupted between Aaron and his mother’s former partner, Wynter, on December 3 last year.
This led to Wynter stabbing Daniel Myrie in the stomach with a knife.
The father-of-three was taken by family members to Lewisham Hospital, where he died two hours later.
Wynter was later arrested after going to a police station with a head injury.
A jury found him not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter on November 25.
Judge Peter Rook told Wynter he was liable for deportation after serving his sentence.
Mr Rook said: “I accept this was not premeditated. Nevertheless, this was a sudden and brutal attack.”
An impact statement by Mr Myrie’s mother was read out in court.
It said: “He was brutally taken away from me. On that day I died along with Daniel.
“He was my soulmate. I will never get over this.
“This is not the end, it is just the beginning of my misery and pain. I will have this for the rest of my life. The pain of his loss will be with me forever.”
