PEOPLE are being asked to grow bee-friendly plants to stop the honey bee from dying out.

Lib Dem candidate for Deptford, Tamora Langley, has helped raise almost £500,000 to fund research by the University of Sussex for protecting the honey bee.

Miss Langley is working with Brockley beekeeper, Camilla Goddard, to develop a guide which will help gardeners make the right decision when planting.

Miss Langley said: “I’m on a mission to help save honey bees as they’re a critical pollinator of thousands of trees and plants.

“If bees die out we'd lose many of our seasonal staples - so no more sprouts, chesnuts or cranberry jelly.

“We need to make sure the money spent in public parks goes towards bee-friendly plants and trees.”

Gardeners are advised to plant daisies, borage and lavender which are bee friendly.
